What’s better than sharing your passions with other curious people? Through lectures and workshops, I am happy to talk about my experiences and expertise with audiences, big and small.

I can attest not just to her vast knowledge but to her passion for many historical topics, as well as her ability to keep audiences engaged and entertained. If you have the opportunity to attend one of Kate’s talks, run don’t walk.

I often joke that, once you get me talking about my research, it’s hard to get me to stop. I’m passionate about my work and glad to share stories, tips, and how-tos with like-minded people. In the past, I have presented original research through lectures; I have led genealogy workshops at local libraries; I have guest facilitated a library book club; and I have presented historical topics to special interest groups.

Here are just a few places and organizations that have asked me to speak:

  • The Maryland-National Capital Park and Planning Commission (Historic and Natural Resources Division)—Marietta House Museum and Surratt House Museum

  • Prince George’s County Memorial Library System

  • Vinalhaven Public Library

  • The Sulgrave Club of Washington, D.C.

If your organization, society, institution, or special interest group is looking for a fun and relaxed learning experience, I’d be glad to work with you to put together a program.

  • As a member of a writing group lucky enough to learn from Kate, I can confidently say her knowledge of history is not only vast, but incredibly accessible. What truly sets her apart is her ability to meet people where they are—she tailors each lesson to support our specific writing projects and research needs, making history feel both relevant and inspiring. Her flexibility and insight mean she’s just as valuable to writers as she would be to any community group, organization, or agency looking to connect the past to the present. Kate’s sessions are always engaging, meticulously researched, and full of those hidden historical gems that spark ideas and deepen understanding. She has a gift for turning history into a tool for creativity, connection, and impact.

  • We have had the great pleasure of having Kate speak at several of our Discord events for our writing communities. Her breadth of knowledge, humor, and teaching style keeps everyone engaged and entertained. She has covered and researched many specific topics for our writers, from medieval castles to witch trials. Her talks are always among our most highly anticipated! I cannot recommend her highly enough.
