Welcome to my website! I’m Katherine, but everyone calls me “Kate.” I’m a historian and writer specializing in research for organizations, institutions, and private clients.

Kate’s energy and determination to share her knowledge is so infectious that she'll have the most reluctant person captivated and asking questions. In a world where you can be anything, be like Kate and her passion for history.

Carolanne B.

History and writing have been my chief hobbies since I was a child. I always knew I wanted to make a living doing either or both. Growing up outside of Washington, D.C., I had access to amazing museums and historic sites that kept my curiosity alive. I always joke that my interest in research began after my parents bought me a First Ladies coloring book and I decided that the captions on each page were too brief for my liking. After that, I devoured all the picture book biographies that the local library could give me.

I have a wide variety of interests when it comes to historic places and eras, as I’m sure most historians do. I love American history, especially the colonial era and the nineteenth century. The art of Renaissance Italy has always captured my imagination. And I spent two years studying in the United Kingdom, allowing my interest in British history (kings and queens, the history of London, the art and culture) to really flourish. As long as I can read about interesting people, I’m satisfied.

I graduated from Skidmore College in 2017 with a Bachelor of Arts degree in History and Art History. In 2019, I earned a Master of Arts degree in Early Modern History from King’s College London, passing with distinction. To sharpen my research skills, I received a certificate in Genealogical Research from Boston University. In 2023, I became a member of the Association of Professional Genealogists (APG).

Since earning my degrees, I am lucky to have made my passion a career. I have worked at many different historical sites in the United States and the United Kingdom, absorbing all of the stories I can. I have done private research, too, and have published several articles about Washington, D.C. local history. I have presented my work through various publications, lectures, public history tools, and more.

When I’m not researching history, I’m probably reading about it for fun! Otherwise, I love reading all sorts of things (and keeping up with my annual Goodreads challenges!). I also love to write creatively. I keep a private diary, too many bullet journals to count, and a scrapbook. I love nature and living in rhythm with the seasons. I love to cook Italian food. I am an emotionally exhausted fan of the Washington Football Team.

Most of all, I’m very thankful for all the people in my life who support and encourage my work, who listen to all my rants, and share my passions.
